Downtown LA
Good pics of Petula Clark
East side of Los Angeles City Hall. My dad told me that his dad worked on a construction crew that built city hall. It was completed in 1928.
Walt Disney Concert Hall
The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion
My dad loved cafeteria food. Cafeterias regularly serve soups and on occasion chili. When visiting his older relatives who were recovering or dying in hospitals from major illnesses or surgeries, he would go visit their cafeteria to get a bowl of chili and two cups of coffee, and later rave about the chili. He loved Clifton's Brookdale on Broadway in downtown LA. His years in the Marines defined so many of his tastes. The food at Clifton's must have reminded him of home-cooked meals from somewhere. I used to visit him at his work during summer vacations as well as after high school, and we would walk across Grand Avenue, cut through the Music Center, and across Hope Street to the Water and Power building seen here and eat in their cafeteria. There was a cafeteria in his own Superior Court building, but he enjoyed trying the cafeteria food at different places.
